Join us at White Hall this Friday evening! Can't wait to see everyone! Anne

The Russian and East European Studies Program at Emory University is proud to present this film by the Hungarian director Miklós Jancsó (b. 1921), one of the major innovators in world cinema. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see this powerful film on the big screen in their original theatrical format.

88 minutes, color, 35mm

Co-sponsored by the Department of Film Studies

Arguably Jancsó's masterpiece, and the pinnacle of his unforgettable visual style. The film's subject is a brutally suppressed agrarian revolt in the late nineteenth century; Jancsó stages the event as a hallucinatory pageant of color, movement and music. In some thirty astonishingly choreographed shots (most films have hundreds) the camera circles the actors, using a zoom lens to catch fleeting details and to subtly alter the viewer's perception of space. The actors sing and dance for most of the time - this is Jancsó's ultimate homage to Hungarian folk dancing, which was his initiation into art and comradeship as an anti-Nazi activist during WWII. Film historian David Cook describes Red Psalm as "a film of nearly perfect formal beauty, great humanity, and awesome cinematic power." Jonathan Rosenbaum (Chicago Reader) writes: "May well be the greatest Hungarian film of the 60s and 70s, summing up an entire strain in work that lamentably has been forgotten here." Winner of Best Direction at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival.

Angol-Magyar Istentisztelet

Roswell, GA 30075

Mindenkit szeretettel varunk!

English-Hungarian Worship Service

I’m glad to announce that our upcoming worship service is on February 15 at 4 p.m. This is going to be a special worship because we are preparing an English-Hungarian bilingual service. The sermon will be delivered by Dr. Lane Alderman who is the senior pastor of our host congregation, the Roswell Presbyterian Church. The rest of the service will be in Hungarian combined with English.
We would like to create an opportunity to those families, family members, spouses, and partners who speak little or no Hungarian to involve them more as members of our community.
Following the worship, you are also invited to our usual potluck where we all contribute either a dish, or dessert, or drink.

Time: February 15, 4 p.m.
Location: 755 Mimosa Blvd
Roswell, GA 30075

I hope I see you there,

Hey y'all! The Atlanta Opera has contacted us about a great opportunity to meet with Hungarian Conductor Gregory Vajda who will be conducting Cinderella at the Opera here in Atlanta this November! I have included the information from Charles Swint on how you can order your special Hungarian Meetup discounted tickets over the phone!!! November 18th is the deadline. After this email I will send information on the conductor. Does anyone have suggestions on what kind of gift we can present after the show? A few years ago we had 98 at our theater event, let's try to top that at the Opera on the 21st! Call me with questions as well at 404-291-7893. Sincerely, Anne

Rossini's Cinderella

A Fairytale. (And Funny, Too!)

How can a girl dream of escaping a harsh life of toil in a loveless home? Rossini's sparkling setting of the Cinderella story shows how goodness can triumph over greed.
