Film screening at Emory University,

Professor Kodolanyi will be showing the next film at the usual time (Wednesday, 6pm), at the usual location (Emory University, White Hall, room 112 in the basement). The next film will be “Kontroll” (2003) directed by Antal Nimrod. The film will be shown in Hungarian with English subtitles.
Tagline: Murder. Mystery. Romance. Just another ride on the subway.
Kontroll is a Hungarian comedy-thriller released to theatres in 2003. Shown internationally, mainly in art house theatres, the film is a darkly comic thriller set on the Budapest Metro.
"Kontroll" in Hungarian refers to the act of ticket inspectors checking to ensure a rider has paid their fare. The story revolves around the ticket inspectors, riders, and a possible killer.

Stephen Spinder photographer's presentation about Transylvania and Budapestrol

After the movie Stephen Spinder will speak again about his photo-s and experiences in Transylvania and Budapest. He had an excellent reception last week in Roswell, and in North Carolina this weekend, a lot of people could not make it, so this is your chance to catch Stephen again here in Atlanta ! Husveti tabor 2009

Husvetkor mar hagyomanya van a magyar tabornak, ez lesz a negyedik husveti taborunk! Ez a legnagyobb rendezvenyunk, tavaly 150-en voltunk. Idopont: 2009, Aprilis 10-11-12. Helyszin a szokasos: Spruce Pine, a gyonyoru North Carolinai hegyekben, nem messze a Blue Ridge Parkway-tol.

Izelito a programokbol: tojas festes hagyomanyos magyar technikakkal, locsolovers tanulas es locsolkodas, kozos sutes-fozes, bogracsozas, husveti etelek, gyerekprogramok es jatekok, tanchaz/neptanc tanulas, vetelkedo, akadalyverseny, kezmuves foglalkozasok (kicsiknek es nagyoknak), erdei turak es kirandulasok (kezdoknek es haladoknak), sok tanc-zene-enek gyerekeknek es felnotteknek egyarant, tabortuz, lovaskocsizas, lovaglas, horgaszat, (kenuzas ha az idojaras kedvezo), stb. Reszletesebb program a "message board"-on.

Szallas kulonbozo komfort fokozatu es meretu erdei fahazakban (satorozas is lehetseges). A tabor teruleten levo szallasok gyorsan el szoktak fogyni. Az iden kertuk hogy minden epuletet tartsanak fenn nekunk, tehat az egesz tabort lefoglaltuk (csak mi leszunk az egesz taborban!), de a fahazakat egyenileg kell lefoglalni, lehetoleg minel elobb. Coming up: Easter Camp 2009, on April 10-11-12 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) at the beautiful Springmaid Mountain Camp, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.

The campground is located on 400 acres of beautiful mountain land, just a mile and a half off the Blue Ridge Parkway. On site they offer horseback riding, hay rides, hiking, fishing, canoeing, rafting and other watersports if weather/water conditions comply. Of course we will have all the fun Hungarian activities, such as dancing, singing, cooking, traditional arts and crafts, Easter customs, kids' activities, campfire, etc. See more details on our message board.

You can camp, book a room in the bunkhouse or rent a separate cabin. This year we have reserved all the buildings on the campground, so we will have the whole place to ourselves. We are expecting more than a hundred people, and the camp housing usually fills up very quickly, so it would be wise to reserve the lodging of your choice ASAP.

The next film will be “Time Stands Still” (1982) directed by Peter Gothar. The film will be shown in Hungarian with English subtitles.

Tagline: Between the pain of the past and the fear of the future, time stands still.

Plot: Accompanied by a soundtrack of American oldies, this subtitled (in English) drama follows brothers in Budapest who attempt to survive a difficult youth in post-revolution Hungary during the early '60s.

The 3 are: a film by Geza Beremenyi, Kontroll (2005) directed by Antal Nimrod and Szabadsag Szerelem (2006) produced by Andy Vajna. I will put the final decision up as soon as I have it.

Dear Friends,

On March 25th Wednesday I will be showing to my class "The Unburied Man"
(2004), a story of Imre Nagy, Prime Minister of the Hungarian
Revolution. The internationally renowned Director, Márta Mészáros,
inserted documentary footage among the flashbacks recapturing
sequences of Nagy's earlier life. The movie presents the process through
which Nagy, a faithful Communist reformer, is caught in the storm of the
Revolution inadvertently, but finally assumes his role as the spokesman
of a nation and choses death and honor.

Mészáros was married to the famous director Miklós Jancsó, and this
film, like many others by her, is photographed by their common son,
Nyika Jancsó. They divorced in the 1970's, and Mészáros developed a
distinguished style of her own, concentrating on subtle human
interactions, while her theme became women's coping with critical
situations, and, in the famous Diary series, her own struggle for
self-liberation in a Communist family environment.

The present film, her most recent, is a straightforward treatment of the
subject, though with her usual touches of human intimacy.

The title refers to the fact that after his execution in June 1958, Imre
Nagy's body was buried by an unmarked grave (and probably naked), as in
the case of other victims of the Kádár terror after 1956. In the
beginning sequence we see two young women (perhaps his grandchildren)
who are bringing flowers to the neglected woods in
the cemetery where they thought his grave might be. In another scene,
mounted police chase away family members commemorating the anniversary
of the execution.

The graves of the martyrs were only explored and identified in 1989,
when the remains were re-buried in a great national ceremony.
